How can you help in the learning garden?

Fall Clean-up Day  Sunday November 14, 1 - 5pm                             Please join School Master Gardener members and parent volunteers to help clean up and beautify our campus! We'll be doing general cleanup around campus as well as working on a few projects in the Learning Garden if we can get the volunteers. See below for a list of projects and contact Amanda Hensley at bahensley@bellshouth.net if you can help with any of these. If you just want to show up and help at the workday, please bring gloves and of the following if you can: rakes, shovels, hand pruners, loppers, wheelbarrows.

Weatherproof Picnic tables: We need a volunteer to pressure-wash before hand, then a few volunteers to paint the tables (planned activity for the workday Sunday afternoon, but can be done another time). A water-repellant stain and paintbrushes will be provided.

Construct an arbor: We have the materials to build the arbor in our Learning Garden, but we need someone with basic handyman/carpentry skills to put it together and a few bodies to help.

Provide Shelving/Storage Unit: We need some type of shelving or storage in the back corner of the Learning Garden to store tools etc. It can be something donated (purchased new or used) or something we build ourselves, and able to withstand being outdoors. Dimensions in ft. would be approx. 1.5Wx6Lx4H.

Make leaf composting bins: We want to construct some simple bins in the northwest corner of the staff parkinglot for composting leaves that fall from the decidious oak in our Learning Garden and possibly from other areas around campus. We will provide metal stakes and chicken wire.

Volunteer Thursday afternoons: We meet the 2nd and 3rd Thursdays of the month from 2:45 till 4:00. Parent and/or community volunteers are needed to help facilitate the meetings. We'd also love to have a photographer help document our activities and progress! Lesson plans are created by our schoolmaster gardener team, but we welcome input on that as well.

Contact the Garden Club at kcsgardenclub@yahoo.com if you can help!
